A jersey garment factory in Barcelos, northern Portugal, founded in 2014 as part of a larger textile group with decades of experience in the region. 109 employees, 80 of whom are women. GOTS certified.
This is where we make our Everyday Tanks and Boat Neck Tops. We visited in 2022.
The process
Production is split across two sister factories a short distance apart. One handles sampling and cutting; the other, sewing and finishing. What makes this setup work is proximity: the fibre, fabric, dyeing, and production all take place within 30 minutes of each other. Shorter distances mean fewer emissions and a supply chain we can actually trace.
The people
8-hour days. 5-day weeks. 22 paid vacation days per year. Wages are above the Portuguese minimum. Employees receive a daily meal and seasonal gifts at Christmas and Easter. The team marks cultural moments together too — a pilgrimage to Fátima, Saint John's celebrations, flowers for every woman on International Women's Day.
80% of managers and owners are women. The team ranges in age from 20 to 62.
The environment
GOTS, GRS, OCS, RCS, OEKO-TEX, ISO 14001, and SMETA certified. Water and energy use are monitored and managed. Textile offcuts are sent to an in-group recycling unit that converts them into new yarn for knits and cotton paper — nothing goes to landfill if it can be given another life. The factory is actively working towards installing solar panels.
Why we work with them
We asked them to complete a detailed social and environmental assessment. Their answers were specific and verifiable. They're in Europe, which means we can visit easily and reduce transportation emissions.
