Through our Women Who Inspire Us series we aim to highlight women who live their lives in a way that we find empowering. Every two weeks we introduce you to someone who has crossed our path - virtually or IRL - and left a lasting impression.

One such woman is Chiara Barla, an Italian chef and baker. We met her at Apotek57, her charming eatery nestled in the heart of Copenhagen. Conveniently adjacent to the Frama store, Apotek57 offers seasonal breakfast and lunch as well as a delicious selection of freshly baked pastries. A must-visit when in Copenhagen!

Today, we are excited to share our #WomenWhoInspireUs interview with Chiara Barla. Reading her responses and diving into her world was truly caprivating, as it offers a glimpse into the culinary expertise and passion that fuels her journey.

Introducing - Chiara Barla

How do you describe what you do?

I am an Italian chef and baker that found her home in Copenhagen.

Name three words that describe you.

Kind, reflective and restless.

Share some moments that calm your mind and make you happy. What do you do to unwind and reconnect with yourself?

I am lucky enough to say that my job is my biggest passion. Being a chef has been a decision well pondered, and it came after a big change of career. Cooking for the people I love, can be my family or my team, is something that ground my self, make me feel present and gives me joy.

What does slow living mean to you?

Slow living means enjoying the moment you are in, fully embracing that time and space, being aware without the urgency to change something or move forward your next task.

Tell us about your morning routine!

I've been without any healthy morning routine for all my life but has been now almost 6 months that I try to make morning more meaningful and taking care of myself before the busy days I have at work. So 15 minutes of yoga (done almost still asleep hahah), gua-sha and a big glass of water (and when I have time a cappuccino in my favourite coffee place nearby my apartment).

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find it mostly in my books, on Instagram and dining out.

Knowing what you know now, what would you tell your 18 year old self?

That she is doing just great. But no anticipation or big advices, the learning process is sometime tough, but too beautiful to be spoiled.

Can you highlight a specific piece of clothing you've owned for a long time that holds a special place in your heart, and share the story behind it?

I have a blazer that I found in a second hand shop: a perfect dark blu colour, beautiful Italian fabric, great conditions and super convenient price. Unfortunately too big (way over-oversized) but I still wanted to buy it, the deal was to good to not take it. And with a great labor of love and her great sewing skills my mum managed to make it fits perfectly. I think that is my favourite timeless and, somehow, tailor-made piece I own.

Your current or all time favorite song?

It could be Temptation from The New Order or Il Veliero from Lucio Battisti…but lately after I watched Aftersun, I "rediscover” and listen a lot to Under Pressure from The Queen and David Bowie.
