Sustainability

How and where are your products made?

The garments of our SS20 collection are being produced by a small team of talented people in Stuttgart, Germany. These people bring years of experience, pay a lot of attention to detail and share our values. They work in a safe and bright working space and are paid a living wage.

Our woven raffia bags are handmade in Marrakech, Morocco. The women making them are skilled artisans, practicing a trade that is a symbol of their heritage. It is especially important now, during times where tourism all over the world is suffering, to support those who are not backed by unemployment benefits.

To find out where the Girlfriend Collective and Organic Basics products are produced, please refer to the collection pages.

What textiles do you use?

In terms of material use, we strive to better ourselves with every collection. By the time we launch our SS20 collection, 67% of our garments will be made of TENCEL, 22% will be made of certified organic cotton and 11% will be made of a TENCEL-linen-cotton mix. It is important to us to only use natural, renewable, recycled, biodegradable and or low-impact textiles.

However, we currently also sell items from other brands that contain recycled polyester and other synthetic materials.

What other materials do you use?

When sourcing materials, we look for the most eco-friendly options: From fabric and thread to extras like buttons and rubber bands.

The buttons we use are made of corozo nuts. Also known as vegetable ivory, corozo is a plant based material. Unlike plastic, it is non-toxic and biodegradable.

The rubber bands we use are made by an Austrian company. They consist of natural rubber and organic cotton.

Our care tags are also made by an Austrian company. They consist of certified organic cotton.

Are your products vegan?

The products we currently sell online are all vegan. However, we might introduce garments made of organic wool in the near future.

Do you have any certifications?

Even though we work with mostly certified, organic materials and fulfill most requirements, we currently don't have any certifications. However, as we introduce new products and settle on the right manufacturers for each component of our garments, we are determined to tackle this.

How do you package and ship orders?

We ship in 100% recyclable, plastic-free packaging. The paper tape is attached with natural rubber glue and printed on using water-based dye. Even our shipping labels are made of paper. We attach them by hand using sustainable glue. ⁣
